Director of Music and Principal Conductor – Jonathan Willcocks

Developing from his early experience as a boy chorister at King's College and as a choral scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, Jonathan Willcocks’ career has embraced a broad spectrum of conducting work and he is also prominent as a widely published composer.

In addition to his work with Southern Pro Musica, he is conductor and musical director of the Portsmouth Choral Union and the Chichester Singers and freelance conducting engagements take him to many parts of the world, especially Canada and the USA.

Jonathan’s compositions encompass orchestral scores and chamber music, in addition to the large number of choral works published principally by Oxford University Press, Lorenz (USA) and Prime Music.  There are now many recordings of his music, including three CDs issued by Priory Records devoted to his choral music and three Prime Music CDs of his works for children’s choirs.  Recent new choral works given premiere performances in UK, USA and elsewhere include such diverse pieces as the choral work 'A Great and Glorious Victory', 'Jack and the Beanstalk' (for narrator and orchestra) and 'Good for You!' - a work for upper-voice choirs on the subject of healthy living and eating, commissioned with the support of Government Lottery funding.  As well as his extensive conducting and composition work, he has continued an active involvement in music education, until recently as Director of the Junior Academy, Royal Academy of Music in London.
